SHOW & TELL
Show & Tell is a
very important part of the whole quilting experience. Not only
is it an opportunity to share our work with our peers, those who
appreciate it as much as we do, it also may spark their creative
spirit.
Let your work be
someone else's inspiration. Send a photo and description of
your latest project to
linda@pineypatch.com and we will put it
here for quilters all over North America to enjoy.

Linda Thompson
(Piney Patch Owner & Operator) added custom quilt making to the
list of offerings by Piney Patch Quiltworks, Inc. when she was
commissioned to make this quilt for friend
Mary. Mary presented it to her
parents as a very special Christmas gift.
Linda
used a combination of photo blocks and pieced blocks to create what
will become a treasured family heirloom.

After
seeing Mary's quilt above, "Irish Johne" commissioned this quilt as
a gift for his mother. The quilt is made up of 8 pieced blocks
and 7 photo blocks and measures 59" X 39". It contains a total
of 19 cherished family photos, spanning 60 years of life with the
Kivlen family.
Pictured
here is the finished quilt being presented to the happy customer.
On the left, Linda Thompson, quiltmaker and owner & operator of
Piney Patch Quiltworks, Inc. On the right, "Irish Johne"
Kivlen. John was very involved throughout the process and was
thrilled with the finished quilt. (Gee, can you tell by the
grin on his face?) So far we've only heard about his mother's
reaction when the whole family gathered to present the quilt to her.
We've been promised photos of the event.
The
quilt label documents each Kivlen family member with their full name
and date of birth, along with the wedding date of John's parents,
and gives credit to the quiltmaker and long arm quilter responsible
for this piece.
This
close up shows the relationship between photo blocks and pieced
blocks and some of the detail and craftsmanship in each.
A
traditional log cabin block gives the feeling of family, home and
warmth...perfect for a quilt filled with memories. And, if you
look close, you'll see a shamrock quilted into the center of the
block (each pieced block has one), a very special request by "Irish
Johne".
Each
photo block, as each photo, was given very special care and
attention with regard to composition, content, quality and placement
to ensure the most pleasing finished product.

Sharon
commissioned this custom "nap" quilt for her daughter Mary who is a
student at the University of Florida. It measures 54" X 70"
and is the perfect size to cuddle up under while watching the game
with a few friends in her dorm room.
The
quilt is set on point and features an appliqued block in the center
with the official UF logo (permission was granted by the University
of Florida).
Trademarked
"gator" fabric provides a "spirited" backing for this quilt.
And
the finishing touch...a custom label, so Mary will always remember
the details about this special gift.

Kerry's Quilt Furnishings
For those of you
who have heard about the wonderful quilt ladders and racks that my
husband makes, here are some photos. They are available for
sale and each one is handmade and finished as you like. For more
information about purchasing one of these beautifully hand crafted
items, contact Linda Thompson at
linda@pineypatch.com, or
954-531-8295.
The
ladder measures 72" X 24", is made of oak and can be finished in
your choice of stains. Kerry (a very detailed oriented guy)
has even angled the uprights (at the top) and covered them with felt
to protect your wall. Click on the photo for an enlarged view.
This
is the first rack that Kerry made and it was given away as a door
prize at a local quilt show. He has since built several more.
They are very popular with quilters who have turned all their wall
space into a design wall!
Now on with the
Show!

"Dear
Linda, I had to let you know how much I am enjoying my Piney Patch
quilt! It's gorgeous, and really "comfy cozy". I enjoy
your web site, and look forward to more Piney Patch quilts."

Barbara's Lover's
Knot

I
love to see what quilter's do with the fabric they buy from us.
Barbara Gardner from Crystal River, Florida sent us these photos of
her variation of the "Lover's Knot", using fabrics from the Aspen
Collection by Marianne Elizabeth for Benartex. Barbara is a
talented quilt maker and poet. Her current project is
designing patriotic quilts for our loved ones serving in the
military.
Barb's Christmas
Candy Table Runner

Barb
is a good friend and great supporter of Piney Patch Quiltworks.
In addition to making samples, she is one of our devoted pattern
testers. Barb made this Christmas Candy table runner using
Jeanine's pattern, and added her own personal touch, by using scraps
from the layer cake to piece the backing. Thanks Barb, you are
a gem.
We love Tee-Shirt Quilts here at
Piney Patch
Jacob
(Linda's grandson) was thrilled when he received his very own tee
shirt quilt. Like Kerry's quilt below, Linda used a
combination of knit and woven fabrics. Great-grandma Jeanine,
even embroidered Jacob's last name on his baseball team shirt.

PPQ's
owner and operator, Linda Thompson made this quilt for her husband,
Kerry in 2004. He had a few "collectable" tees that were very
special to him. Linda combined them with a basic log cabin
quilt block and then sandwiched and machine quilted it like a
regular quilt.
Millie
from Inverness, Florida sent us this photo. She had a great
time making this tee-shirt quilt for her granddaughters. She
used shirts the girls collected over several years of dance classes.
Millie used Warm & Natural for the batting, fleece as a backing and
finished it with a combination of tying and machine quilting.
The finished size is 58" X 58". The girls are now enjoying
this fabric scrapbook to cuddle under. Just click on the photo for a
larger image.
Want to take a class and learn to make
these "fabric scrapbooks" yourself? Contact Linda at "the
Patch" to see when the next class is being offered. Not local?
